Our stage offers 14 hours of the very best bluegrass and old time country entertainment in Ontario beginning Friday evening and running all weekend. The camp grounds open Friday at noon. We have vendors on site an old car show ,and many other reasons to enjoy our genuine Manitoulin hospitality.

This is your opportunity to develop some wonderful lasting friendships with others in the Special Olympics experience. I’m looking forward to meeting you there.

I can help with travel and accommodation needs.

Lets all get together and have a weekend of just plain fun together.

Athlete of the Month: December - Michel Angrignon

posted Jan 23, 2012 12:13 PM by Jarrod Copland

The Northern District of Special Olympics Ontario is proud to announce Michel Angrignon as its Athlete of the Month for December, 2011.

Michel is 57 years old and has been a member of Special Olympics Ontario - Elliot Lake for 13 years. Michel competed at the National Games in 5 pin bowling at Brandon Manitoba and also competed at Provincial Games in snowshoeing at both Owen Sound and Thunder Bay.  He will be competing at the National Winter Games in St Albert this year in snowshoeing. Michel also competes in Special Olympics swimming and Track & Field.

When Michel isn’t taking part in Special Olympics Sports, he attends The North Shore  Literacy Council to upgrade his education, rides his bike, mows lawns in the nice weather and shovels driveways during the winter.

Michel was selected for this award because he gives 100% and is very enthusiastic, no matter what sport he is taking part in. He is a very sociable athlete who respects the coaches and other athletes.  Good sportsmanship seems to come to him naturally. We are proud to have him as an athlete in Special Olympics Ontario!

Congratulations Michel!

Volunteer of the Month: December - Diane Sten (Thunder Bay)

posted Jan 23, 2012 11:59 AM by Jarrod Copland

The Northern District of Special Olympics Ontario is proud to honour Diane Sten of Thunder Bay as December's Volunteer of the Month.

Diane Sten has been involved with Special Olympics Thunder Bay Branch for 11 years. Diane's niece Meghan Fonso is an athlete with Special Olympics, so one day Diane decided to take her niece to the swimming program and to see what Special Olympics was all about and behold she was hooked on the spot!!!

Diane is truly amazing with her always warming smile, kind heart, patience and understanding. The athletes adore her.

She volunteers her time weekly at Rhythmic Gymnastics, Snowshoeing, Bowling, Curling and Swimming during the winter months and during the summer months with Track & Field and Fun in the park. She is always game to help out at any social events or sporting events that are being held in Thunder Bay for Special Olympics.

Diane is always around to lend a hand, whether it be an assistant coach needed for a sporting event away or at home in Thunder Bay, she is always up for any challenge. Taking the NCCP coaching course was a must for her as she new this would open a bigger world of opportunity for helping out with the Athletes.

Diane is the Ultimate Volunteer and we very much appreciate all the time she commits to the sporting and social events, the fundraising events and her caring and understanding ways with the athletes.  Without people like Diane, we could not provide the athletes with all the motivation and support they truly deserve.
