Congratulations, Team Canada!

Team Canada had excellent representation by athletes in Northern Ontario, with snowshoeres Matthew B. and Kelsey M., both from Manitoulin, representing their country at the 2017 World Winter Games in Austria this past March. What a Night! 2016 Provincial Awards

(please click on post title to be taken to page with photo) Congratulations to all award recipients, honoured at the Special Olympics Ontario Annual General Meeting held November 9th in Markham. Northern Ontario was well-represented on the stage! Male Athlete of the Year is Dayne Tipper of Manitoulin Island, Team of the Year is the Manitoulin Rockin' Sweepers Curling Team, Educator of the Year is Rob Saunders of Near North, Volunteer of the Year is Denita Minoletti of Thunder Bay, and the President's Award was presented to Diane Wahlman of Timmins. Well-deserved recognition, to be sure. Also recognized were Years of Service recipients, including Reggie Lacroix of Sudbury East for 30 years of dedication to the organization.

Congratulations to those athletes and coaches who have been selected to the Team in Training! For questions about selections, please contact District Developer Hellaina Rothenburg, hellainar@specialolympicsontario.com. North East team members should continue good communication with  their District Team Managers, Dee Mitchell of Parry Sound and Chris Rheault from North Bay, and for those in the North West, Sandra McDougall will be your lead. CF24: Successful event in Kapuskasing

SUPER event held in Kapuskasing as part of CF24, the partnership between Special Olympics and Cross Fit gyms across the country. Held on October 22nd, the event saw gym members complete a series of workouts while raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Check out the aweseme video posted by Rock Box Crossfit:

What a Day at Queen's Park!

n May 3rd, various MPPs met with athletes and their families from across the Province. This awareness day was very successful, allowing MPPs to find out more about the opportunities that our athletes have through Special Olympics, in their ridings and beyond. SOO-Kapuskasing hosted swimmers from the North East in their recent swim meet. It was a great opportunity to meet with other athletes and show of skills worked on all winter, and for those athletes heading to Guelph for Provincial Spring Games to have a competition experience before the event. Check out the press coverage!
